Welcome to TibiaVIP!

If you could change one thing, you...
Mar 05 2013 CEST
t the end of November 2012 we asked you what you would change in Tibia if you could change it. We further asked you to focus on little things, not on one of the big topics, like the massive use of cheating programmes, for example.

Approximately 2000 players participated in this feedback form. We would like to thank everybody for their feedback! There were many interesting submissions and ideas, and it really took us some time to work through them. Now, we would like to present you the results.

Not surprisingly, many players did indeed mention the big problems of Tibia in this feedback form despite the above directive. So the overall results do not greatly differ from the feedback form "What don't you like about Tibia" from July/August 2012. Naturally, people like to change the things they do not like, so we had anticipated this, but we were greatly interested in the smaller details that would come from this feedback form.
We have presented you the results of the feedback form "What don't you like about Tibia" in the featured article of September 2012, The majority, on Tibia. For this reason, we will only shortly mention these big topics here, and focus more on the smaller things.

As we always do with such feedback forms, we read through your submissions and categorise them. In the end, there were about 146 different categories, representing opinions of about 2000 players on minor things that should be changed in Tibia, things that do not have a very big impact. So naturally, the number of categories has to be quite high.

The Top Ten Categories

The top three categories of this feedback form all refer to the big problematic topics in Tibia. These top topics are: botting, with 7.1% of all statements, the PvP system with 4.8% of all statements, and vocation balancing, with just as many references as the PvP system.
We know that the portion of the community that sees these topics as most problematic currently is a lot larger than this, however, naming the biggest problems of Tibia was not the topic of the feedback form, so many players simply have not mentioned them.

For the PvP system, most participants suggested to remove swapping, and to reduce the number of counted killers. Also, a removal of the "Twist of Fate" blessing was mentioned several times. While we were aware of this feedback beforehand, the decision not to simply take back prior changes, but to develop a new PvP system was made quite some time ago already, and discussed with players in the PvP Focus group. While we are writing this article, the start of the PvP Preview phase lies shortly ahead. We hope that you will like the changes that will be tested thoroughly on our two Preview game worlds Aurora and Aurera.
The main concern of people asking for clear vocation definitions and a vocation balancing was the imbalance between sorcerers and druids. However, also an improvement concerning the healing of knights was wished for in many statements. Vocation balancing is also one of our internal hot topics, and we have introduced you a bit to our vision of clear vocation definitions in the featured article Tibians, what is your vocation? Changes to vocations are still music of the future though, since we are focussing on the botting problem and the PvP first.

The top 4th category is a collection of statements which did not fit any of the other categories. We called it Misc. It is filled with mostly single and individual statements, and we would like to share some of them with you. For example:

"I would like to buy coffee from NPCs. Now I buy beer from NPCs and that is not really a good morning drink. Coffee should make a player feel "more energetic and awake" and sounds would be 'Aah..delicious'"

This player surely has a point, however, instead of a regular morning beer, we would suggest having a glass of milk, for as long as coffee has not found its way to Tibia. That would be much healthier!

Ideas that refer to very specific areas or topics in Tibia landed in this category as well, like:

"What I would change in Tibia are the swimming areas. The current swimming areas seem so out of place in Tibia's medieval atmosphere: the swimming caps, beach chairs, parasols, buoys. Please make them less modern!"

Not all of the collected proposals in this category referred to the content of Tibia. Other wishes were, for example, a new opening screen for the Tibia client, or being able to change your vocation as a premium service, or an implementation of Tibia for Android phones. About 4.5% of participants of the feedback form made statements which could not be categorised otherwise.

2.8% of all statements referred to community binding measures, which reflects the fear of a decay of the Tibia community, as it was also mentioned in the top ten of the things you do not like about Tibia in the prior feedback form. Ideas that players brought forward that landed in this category were, for example, that there should be more events at which the community really has to work closely together and organise things together, like the Lightbearer event. Other proposals referred to group hunting and team building and asked for an active support and encouragement, for example, by improving party hunts and team hunting. Proposals like a better "shared XP"-system were included in this category as well.

With just as many references as the community binding measures, the first category comes into play that was not highly ranked in the "What don't you like about Tibia" feedback form. The title is "increase respawn" and includes references to the spawn rates of bosses, of raids, of events, and of tameable creatures. It was often hinted at that during Tibia's 15th anniversary celebrations the spawn time of the events and bosses was quite good, and that you would simply like more things to do ingame, and also a greater variety of things to do. It was also suggested to implement a different respawn system, one that is completely independent from the amount of players online on a game world.
In the meantime, there have already been some adjustments of the respawn rates, and about 75% of players appreciated these changes, as you told us in the poll The respawn rate change was....
Nevertheless, respawn rates, especially those of bosses and events are currently investigated and analysed, and improving this situation is also on our internal wish list.

The next category refers to Tibia's graphics. 2.7% asked to improve some graphics. Graphics of old items, old monsters, old outfits, trees or dead characters, for example. Everything old should be polished and adjusted to fit the style of the newer ingame graphics. Such things are usually tasks that the graphic artists and the content team take care of when they revamp a certain area, so surely some of these wishes will be fulfilled in future updates.
However, in category number 52 we learn that some players appreciate the old graphics as well, and would really like a reference to them ingame, a place where they could remember the good old times. Category number 52 refers to keeping old graphics ingame, either in the museum in Thais, or in the form of a nostalgia island, as it was part of the 15th anniversary celebrations.

Category No. 8 refers to a wish for ingame support. 2.3% would like to see gamemasters back online, and would hope that they would then punish on the spot for game weakness abuse, for example, when quests are blocked. Our current standing here is that we will not bring gamemasters back into the game, as we have already stated publicly several times. However, we understand that you are not satisfied with the situation as it currently is. Concerning game weakness abuse, our plan is that these weaknesses should rather be eliminated, than punishing players for using the technology of the game.

The next mostly referred to category concerns spells. 2.1% of participants wish for a revision of the spell system. Cooldowns should be adjusted or removed, some spells should be adjusted, others added. The suggestions in this category did not all refer to making damage or healing, some were also really practical. For example, it is really difficult to understand why a magic user can use magic in order to use a rope, however, no spell has ever been invented by any wizard to use a machete or a shovel.
A revision of the spell system is also one of the future things that we are going to address, especially when we are working more intensely on the vocation definitions and the vocation balancing. Maybe some minor changes will come beforehand, however, we cannot make any promises at this point.

The last of the top ten categories are statements that refer to features of the Flash client which are missing in the stand-alone client. 2.0% would like to see some of these features in the stand-alone client as well, mainly the WASD movement and the hotkey handling.
From a technical point of view, not everything that is possible in the Flash client is also possible in the stand-alone client, however, we will see what the future will bring here.

Smaller Categories

Apart from the top ten, we would like to mention some of the smaller categories as well. Just because fewer people named them, they are not less important or interesting.

For example, in category No. 23 1.1% wish for a modernisation of the bank system in Tibia. Things that people had in mind here were a bank receipt, direct transactions with NPCs, instant deposits from the monsters' corpses, and a system that adds interest to your money, just like some real banks do. While most of these proposals were not new to us, because they had already been collected from the proposal board some time ago, we agree that some of these would surely be a nice addition to Tibia, and are also still on our internal wish list.

In category 46 we also meet some of the older proposals, for example a family system and pets! 0.7% of participants would direly want an encouragement of role-playing in Tibia, and they would absolutely welcome such an addition to their Tibian lives.
Introducing "sitting" to Tibia would also fit this category, however, it formed a category by itself, since it was mentioned quite often. 0.6% would like to be able to give their characters the chance to finally take a load of their feet.

In category 66, we summarised several suggestions of new mounts. 0.4% of participants made mount suggestions, such as a dragon lord, an elephant, Ferumbras or even flying mounts.

While flying mounts are currently relatively unrealistic for Tibia, new mounts in general will definitely come with future updates, and we are curious to see what our content team will come up with.

Jumping to category 69:

"I would add some kind of reward to those who use dustbins. Dustbins are almost useless, and we could have some better way of using it. Reputation in any kind of group or NPC and even an achievement for it! Some daily task could be nice. I know that's not the biggest thing to worry about, but Tibia has such beautiful cities, I don't like all that trash covering it."

True! Just imagine what cities in real life would look like if people would just throw everything they do not need any more out of their windows! About 0.4% of participants actually referred to the trash laying on the ground in Tibia, be it in dungeons or cities. 0.4% is not that many people, but - consider this: the pollution in Tibia is important enough for these players to mention it when asked about what they would change. Out of all thinkable options, this was their reply. So keeping your surroundings clean is not only good for nature, but also for the nerves of your companions! Please keep this in mind the next time you throw your empty flasks and backpacks on the ground.

In all categories, there were many many splendid suggestions, concerning little things and bigger things. We would like to name a couple more ideas explicitly, apart from their categories, just to let you know what is on the mind of some of your fellow Tibians:

* outfit dolls
* special boni for complete sets
* special boni or traits for mounts
* special boni for outfits
* the possibility to auction houses in the market
* animations for attacks
* more vocations
* a global depot box and a search option for the depot
* a new currency unit for 100 crystal coins
* a duel arena with a betting system and highscores
* a transportation system, combining all cities - to make travelling faster
* improving the questlog
* improving different displays, like the remaining time of a pz lock, for example
* more guild features
* exiva NPCs
* weather effects / seasonal changes
* shadows
* second promotion
* ...

The list really is never ending, and we simply cannot name all...

As always, we community managers have forwarded the results of the feedback form to the product management, and the other departments, so that they can keep them in mind during their update plannings.

What do you think about the proposals and topics that came up in this article?

Keep discussing!
