2015 - A Retrospective
Dec 09 2015 CEST
ince it is already December, it is time for our annual retrospective. What has happened in Tibia this year? Let us remember some of the things that 2015 has brought along:

2015 has almost gone by
this is, however, no reason to cry.
It's rather a reason to celebrate and sing
and to be curious about what 2016 may bring.
First let's look back though, let the past have its show.
Let's look at what happened, let old memories glow.

First Quarter of 2015

2015, as every year, started with Tibia's anniversary. This year it was Tibia's 18th anniversary. Since Tibia had finally come of age, we wanted to know Your True Tibian Age, too.
5401 players told us the results of their age test in a poll to January's featured article. 55.30% of Tibia players stated that they are already "Tibian adults" and 24.74% would even call themselves "Tibian grandparents".

Even though the personality test was only fun and the results of this poll are not scientifically sound and do not display the real age of Tibians, it does show that you all have grown with us and with Tibia.
In order to thank you for your loyalty, a loyalty system was introduced in the beginning of this year, with which you can get a bonus on all of your skill points, up to 50%.

Another new feature that was released in January 2015 is the authenticator that helps to protect your account against unauthorised access.

In February, we community managers sent you on a scavenger hunt through our news archive. The cute bookworm Readle kept us quite busy till the beginning of the following month, when the well-known adventurer Amaro asked to officially recognise some incredible monuments in Tibia as Wonders of the Tibian World.
In collaboration with the Adventurers' Guild and the Explorer Society, he had composed a list of 16 astonishing monuments, each of them a testament to Tibian ingenuity, creativity and ambition.
In a survey you then helped to find out which eight of them should become the new wonders of the Tibian world, and thus get in line with the already exisiting wonders like the Colossus of Kazordoon, the Black Pyramid of Draconia, the Great Lighthouse Tree of Ab'Dendriel, the Thorntower of Shadowthorn, the underground city of Mintwallin, the Black City of Skulls in Hellgate, the Great Lava Falls in Hellgate, and the pyramid city of Ankrahmun.

These are now the Eight new Wonders of the Tibian World you all have chosen:
  • Banuta
  • The Dark Cathedral
  • Demona
  • Drefia
  • The inner city of Yalahar
  • Noodles Academy of Modern Magic
  • The Statue of God King Qjell
  • The White Raven Monastery
A book listing these new wonders was added to the Isle of the Kings' library in the summer of 2015.

Second Quarter of 2015

We welcomed spring with a double XP and double skill time in the beginning of April, and took a closer look at the famous Plains of Havoc.

Everything seemed well, until mid-April the Tibia universe got haunted by technical difficulties and several game worlds crashed. The entire second quarter of 2015 remained a bumpy ride.
Login problems, DDos attacks and plenty of discussions about a possible compensation for all these problems overshadowed nearly everything else that happened during that time.

The teasers for the summer update had already started then as well, and in June, the implementation of Tibia Coins and the Store was announced.
Due to unexpected problems during the implementation of planned features, even the summer update had to be postponed several days.

Third Quarter of 2015

With the start of the third quarter of 2015, and the handing out of compensation for the previous problems, changes on double XP/Skill vouchers were introduced. They received an expiration date, they stopped stacking on top of each other, and they received the ability to be paused, which many of you had wished for.

Before the summer update of 2015 could finally go live, we had to announce several Changes in the Tibia Team and the internal restructuring began.
On July 21 then, the summer update 2015 was finally released, and with it, the aforementioned Tibia Coins and the Store.

August then brought a Starterkit - a one-time offer for players who have never had premium time before, as well as a new Tell-a-Friend system.
As usual, September started with The Rise of the Devovorga, one of the most popular world events in Tibia.

Besides showing your fighting skills in this event, many of you took part in the contest Behind the Gate of Expertise for Level 999 during that time. The thread for this contest contains 1573 posts from 1278 different Tibia accounts and has been viewed over 64,000 times in the meantime.

The Fourth Quarter of 2015

October was already in the light of the winter update. The first Sneak Peek and the following update teasers were welcomed heartily.
In November, all teasers had been published and you could already experience on the test server what the winter update of 2015 would bring:
2016

At the time this featured article is being written, the strategic planning for Tibia for the next year is not fully completed. So unfortunately, we cannot disclose any specific news here. Many ideas and plans are on our minds. It is too early for us, though, to make any distinct promises, so we prefer to remain quiet about these at the moment. We will, of course, be concerned with the fight against cheaters, and projects like the new Tibia client will also keep us busy. We will also have two major updates in 2016 that you can look forward to.

Rest assured that as soon as we have news to share, we will do so! So keep in mind to check the news on Tibia.com regularly to stay informed, also in the year 2016!

Now it is time to wish all of you a nice ending for the year 2015 and a really good start into 2016!

Have fun in Tibia!
